Here is the reference photo I’ve painted from for this. This is my very willing model and muse who I use in a lot of my paintings.

My line sketch transfered onto the velour

Working that left part of the picture towards the right laying in background areas.

Strengthening contrasts and adding the floor details and shadows.

Working from the back forward for the plants and dog. Picking out the bits of highlighted sunlight.

This plant was so fiddly! Quite a lot of use for the pastel pencils and a paper stump for neatening edges.

This is my finished painting which is 12″x18″. The colours I worked with made the painting more subtle than the original photo.

Magnifique BRAVO
Thanks so much Godefroy 🙂
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing the steps.
Thank you! I want to share the journey of everything I paint as I think it's useful and interesting and have learnt much from other artists processes.
beautiful! I have a mini long haired doxie who I love! thanks for posting your tips on velour, I am going to try some, as I was having trouble compared to regular sanded paper.
Thanks for the feedback Joanne. I love all dogs but the Dachshunds are a firm favourite! Love their strength of character which is why I paint my own girl so much. Good luck with the velour, it's a great surface
