Roughly sketched out I begin the background
moving forward in the composition

I’m using lots of red through his coat
so he’ll really stand out amongst the greens

Always good to get the face in, gives me
someone to look at!

I like to treat reflection pieces like 2
seperate paintings.  I do the top half first
and then using the same palette I very loosely
mirror image this for the reflection.
I’ve layered in the darks here first, and
I’ll layer up the colours dark to light
with loose marks to replicate ripples.
